This article in The Washington Post may be a year and a half old but the fact that most Americans are still not aware of this is what truly frightens me. Everybody’s screaming about the government monitoring our phone calls and our emails – and our tweets and our FB posts and our blogs, of course – (as if that hasn’t been done for YEARS) but nobody cares that they want to put surveillance planes over our heads? And maybe nobody cares that austerity measures won’t put the surveillance into the inept hands of government agencies but more likely into the beefy palms of deep-pocketed private firms with lucrative governmental contracts and no accountability to the populace?
