when will this lure of civilization pass, that we might forsake

asphalt and shatterproof glass? value the trees moss ferns

and wild flowers that beckon to you: abandon your towers.

Mastering Deceit

…we are citizens in mild oblivion. Our collective

intelligence stands assaulted and tampered with. We are

mere shadows now of what free

minds used to be, processed organisms transfixed

by the filtering of selective lies and truths… We bring

the Dead back to life with Democracy…

“Call It Democracy”

by Bruce Cockburn

padded with power here they come

international loan sharks backed by the guns

of market hungry military profiteers

whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared

with the blood of the poor

who rob life of its quality

who render rage a necessity

by turning countries into labour camps

modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom

sinister cynical instrument

who makes the gun into a sacrament–

the only response to the deification

of tyranny by so-called “developed” nations’

idolatry of ideology

north south east west

kill the best and buy the rest

it’s just spend a buck to make a buck

you don’t really give a flying fuck

about the people in misery

IMF dirty MF

takes away everything it can get

always making certain that there’s one thing left

keep them on the hook with insupportable debt

see the paid-off local bottom feeders

passing themselves off as leaders

kiss the ladies shake hands with the fellows

open for business like a cheap bordello

and they call it democracy

and they call it democracy

and they call it democracy

and they call it democracy

see the loaded eyes of the children too

trying to make the best of it the way kids do

one day you’re going to rise from your habitual feast

to find yourself staring down the throat of the beast

they call the revolution

— Toronto, 11/1985

The “We Are The 99%” movement could have been a revolution… Yes?

banned by default

No, they haven’t banned assault weapons. What they actually did away with was common sense. Oh, and Democracy. That went straight down the crapper, too. Now that Walmart is a person and Congress cast votes in the hopes that they don’t offend the Big Purses for the next round of Prostitution- er, I mean campaigning. My apologies to all of you running for re-election or readying to fight the good fight who will NOT be equipping those 527’s knee pads. Cheers!

don’t be bamboozled!

If money translates into power, and big money translates into big power, and really big money translates into enormous power, then ask yourselves this: who’s running your show? When the multinational corporations pad the pockets of politicians, it isn’t you or me that they are interested in taking care of. America does not have a government by or for the people, and only a fool would believe that it does. The people are pawns to be sacrificed in that eternal search for the mundane holy grail: outrageous and expanding profit. So, what are you going to do about it? Who are you going to vote for that is going to give a damn about whether you live, die or barely exist? And should you bother to vote at all?

Be there minstrels among us?

”Ring out, ring out thy mournful rhymes,

But ring the fuller minstrel in.”

– Alfred Tennyson

Be there minstrels among us, equally adept at both stirring the cauldron of contemplation and promoting civility in discourse;  loathe to succumb to partisanship and vilification; willing to expose the emperor and the petty tyrant alike?
